35th annual Photo Arts Club of Toledo contest

The Photo Arts Club of Toledo is hosting its 35th annual photo contest at Secor Metropark. The exhibit will be open Saturday and Sundays, fron noon to 4 p.m., March 23 through May 4, excluding Palm Sunday and Easter weekend. There will be no opening reception this year.

Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a serious medical condition and a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The National Library of Medicine National Center for Biotechnology Information offers that hypertension is responsible for the majority of cardiovascular mortality. Hypertension is associated with an inactive lifestyle, so becoming more active can prevent or even reverse a hypertension diagnosis.

Heritage dinner postponed to Jan. 26

The Friendship Park Community Center heritage dinner has been postponed until Friday, January 26, from 5 to 7 p.m., due to cold and snow. It will be a Mexican dinner prepared by Lillian Martinez Katko and Maria Loera.

Girl Scouts cookie sale now underway

The Girl Scout cookie fund-raiser campaign is now underway. Through March 17, local Girl Scouts will be selling nine varieties of cookies across northwest Ohio. The annual event is the world’s largest entrepreneurial program for girls.

Marisol retrospective explores an artist who helped define the 1960s

The Toledo Museum of Art (TMA) will celebrate an influential and often overlooked Pop art icon with “Marisol: A Retrospective,” on view March 2 through June 2. The exhibition chronicles the artist’s full creative arc with 244 works, including objects from TMA’s collection. Her sculptures, selfportraits, sketches, source materials, studies and personal photographs take viewers through the artist’s evolving ideas and inspirations as she explored the cultural issues of her time, from social identities to the environment.

Mercy announces mobile mammogram schedule

Mercy Health’s mobile mammography unit has visits scheduled throughout the region in January. The mobile mammography unit is customized for patient convenience and will deliver 3D mammograms to women age 40 and older.
