At the January 2 Washington Township organizational meeting, Jerry Mayfield took the oath of office as trustee. Mr. Mayfield and wife, Karen, have lived in the township since 1995 and have two daughters, Laura and Kathleen, who attended Shoreland Elementary School, graduated from Whitmer High School and became teachers.
All fourth grade students at Toledo Public and Washington Local schools are invited to apply to serve a term on Toledo’s kid council. The city will select 13 students for the opportunity to serve one year.
Glenwood Lutheran Church, 2545 Monroe Street, has begun work on “The Change Wall” mural. The project is the work of local muralist Dean Davis and takes inspiration from an illustration in Amanda Gorman’s children’s anthem “Change Sings.” The original illustration was created by Loren Long. In the book, a young girl leads others through a musical journey where they learn that they have the power to make changes in their community, the world and themselves.
The Girl Scout cookie fund-raiser campaign is now underway. Through March 17, local Girl Scouts will be selling nine varieties of cookies across northwest Ohio. The annual event is the world’s largest entrepreneurial program for girls.
Registration is open for the first session of the 2024 Dr. Sharon Erel lecture series featuring Matt Bell, chief executive officer and founder of Team Recovery. The event is Thursday, February 8, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the McMaster Center, Toledo Lucas County Public Library, 325 Michigan Street, Toledo.
The City of Toledo is sponsoring Nature’s Nursery at Friendship Park Community Center on Thursday, January 18, at 11 a.m. The program will be about their conservation and rehabilitation program for animals.
Hospice of Northwest Ohio is in need of volunteers who are a licensed hairdresser or barber. Hair care volunteers provide basic haircuts only for patients living in their homes or at nursing homes throughout Wood, Lucas, Fulton, Henry, Ottawa and Monroe counties.
