Officials monitor Lake Erie algae

The Lake Erie harmful algal bloom bulletin has continued monitoring algae containing potentially harmful cyanobacteria in western Lake Erie over the past few weeks. In the last bulletin, released on Monday, July 17, the National Center for Coastal Ocean Science measured the area of the bloom at 120 square miles, unchanged from the previous week.

You may have noticed some birds that look a bit different or are a bit plainer than their parents; or speckled, or some other giveaway that they are this year ’s babies. Free concert in the park set for July 17

On Monday, July 17, Friendship Park Community Center, in partnership with City of Toledo, will host a concert in the park, from 7 to 9 p.m. Music will be presented by Glass City Steel, a high school steel drum group from the Toledo School for the Arts.

Steam Threshers to host antique display July 16

The days of yesteryear will be on display Sunday, July 16, at the Five Point Steam Threshers 61st annual reunion. The event, free and open to the public, will feature wheat threshing and plowing demonstrations, along with a variety of antique tractors, gas and steam engines.

Ohio Lake Erie Commission releases 2023 plan to protect the great lake

The Ohio Lake Erie Commission approved its 2023 Lake Erie Protection (LEPR) and Restoration plan at the June quarterly meeting. The LEPR, last published in 2020, reflects actions the Ohio Lake Erie Commission and its member agencies will undertake over the next two years to protect, preserve and restore the great lake and promote economic development for the region.
