Julia (Ellingham) Stange of Toledo, passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on January 5, 2023. Julia was born to Stanley and Margaret (Hartt) Ellingham in Springfield, Massachusetts, on August 11, 1940.

Family was always important to Julia, and she is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert C. Stange; her son, Robert Svatora; her daughters, Ann (Robert) Foeller, Erica (Kent Baker) Stange and Kirsten “Tory” (Zak) Taylor; her grandchildren, Robert (Angel) Foeller, Kylie Miller, Mitchell Taylor, Alyssa Taylor, Jacob Stange and Joanne Stange; and her sister, Susan Smith. She was preceded in death by her son, Aaron A. Stange.

Julia spent her childhood in Springfield, Massachusetts, moving to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, in her teens. Julia went to LaSalle Junior College, then to Michigan State University, where she received a degree in education. In 1974, Julia moved to Toledo, with her family.

In 1981, Julia decided to make a career of helping people and went to Mercy College, graduating and becoming a registered nurse in 1983. After graduating, she worked in the oncology department at the Toledo Hospital until she retired in 1995.

Julia loved to sew and was a prize winning cross stitcher. Her children and grandchildren proudly display the many items she made for them. She enjoyed getting together with her stitching group every week, as well as spending time with her many friends from the Red Hat Society.

Julia found her inner child again when her grandchildren came along. They could always count on her to play a game of Chutes and Ladders, to read a good story, to bake cookies or to swim with them in the pool. In the fall, she was known for the large piles of leaves she would make for the kids (and her) to play in.

A memorial gathering was held on Sunday, January 8, at David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 North. Summit Street, Toledo, from 2 to 4 p.m., with a Celebration of Life at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the charity of choice may be considered.
