Edgar D. Hepfinger, 87, of Toledo, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg.

He was born April 17, 1935, to Carrie Owens and Park Hepfinger in Toledo. He attended Shoreland and Whittier elementary schools, then onto Whitmer High School. He graduated in 1954 after lettering in football, basketball and baseball. Also during this time other interests came along; these were fishing, hunting and bowling. In addition, he became a member of the American Legion Post 110, North Toledo Arrow Club, 27-year member of Ottawa River Yacht Club and 18-year member of Shoreland (Washington Township) Fire Department, where he was president and captain for three years each. He also excelled in fast pitch softball. He had the opportunity to pitch against a Class B championship team from Iowa, that was touring the United States. He was one of the founding members of the Washington Junior Football League. Ed was the head coach for 20 years for the Shoreland Firebirds football team, and also coached in the Trilby baseball league. A U.S. Army veteran, Ed proudly and honorable served his country.

Ed was employed by the Edison for 37 years as a crane and heavy equipment operator.

He is survived by children, Mark (Karen) Hepfinger and Julie Ricker; grandkids, Kristofer (Melissa) Hepfinger, Nathan Ricker and Tiffany Kirby (Keegan); great-grandkids, Rhiannon, Rylan, Brookson, Tristin, Conner, Blake, Violet, Ella and Crew, and sister, Betty Muhleman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Park and Carrie; wife, Rosie; daughter, Jodi, and brother, Jerry.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 29, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 North Summit Street, Toledo. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home at 3:30 p.m., Pastor Jeff Ellis, presiding.
