Point Place residents named to OSU dean’s list

Numerous Point Place residents were named to the dean’s list at Ohio State University for the spring 2023 term. In order to be named to the dean’s list, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher with 12 or more credit hours through full-time enrollment.

Rain barrel workshop to be offered on Aug. 9

The Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District (LSWCD), as a part of the Toledo/Lucas County rain garden initiative, is offering community members an opportunity to make a rain barrel on Wednesday, August 9, at the LSWCD office, 3350 Hill Avenue, Suite K, Toledo.

Seniors dine outs set for August 14 and 28

Seniors from Friendship Park Community Center are now meeting to dine out twice a month. On July 11, 13 seniors from FPCC dined at Bob Evans, and on July 19, 15 seniors ate at Black Forest Cafe.

TMACOG offers gas cap testing, replacement at PJHS

Area motorists had the opportunity to have their vehicle’s gas cap tested for leakage and, if needed, replaced. The Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments hosted the annual summer gas cap check at Perrysburg Junior High School on July 26.

Lucas County supports criminal justice reform with community grant funds

A third round of grant funding is available as part of an ongoing initiative to partner with communitybased groups to support criminal justice reform and address racial disparity in local jails. The grant program, which launched in 2021, provides resources to community- based organizations doing innovative work on criminal justice to further the goals of the county’s participation in the MacArthur Foundation Safety + Justice Challenge.

One issue on Aug. 8 election ballot

Registered voters will be asked to decide one issue on the ballot Tuesday, August 8. The state has a proposed Constitutional amendment that would: •require that any proposed amendment to the Constitution of the State of Ohio receive the approval of at least 60 percent of eligible voters voting on the proposed amendment; •require that any initiative petition filed on or after January 1, 2024 with the Secretary of State proposing to amend the Constitution of the State of Ohio be signed by at least 5 percent of the electors of each county based on the total vote in the county for governor in the last preceding election; •specify that additional signatures may not be added to an initiative petition proposing to amend the Constitution of the State of Ohio that is filed with the Secretary of State on or after January 1, 2024 proposing to amend the Constitution of the State of Ohio.
