County dog shelter accepting volunteers for field trip program

Man’s best friend is looking for a best friend.

Approved volunteers with Lucas County Canine Care and Control now have the opportunity to take shelter dogs for day trips and other excursions around the area.

Canine Care and Control announced its new “Dogs on the Town,” or the DOTT program, which pairs approved volunteers with shelter dogs for field trips.

Outings with volunteers can be as short as an hour or up to a day. The field trips are openended and can include hiking at a metropark, taking a nap at the volunteer’s home, shopping at a dog-friendly business and more.
