Re-thinking recycling: Administration, litter board and city council work together on sustainable plan
There’s a global shift happening that has municipalities-including Perrysburgre-thinking recycling.
One problem is that the market for recyclables has tanked.
“The changes in recycling we’re seeing are mainly due to the ban by the Chinese government on America’s export of ‘dirty’ recyclables,” said Esther Fournier, president of American Recycler News, Inc. “The Chinese government implemented a policy featuring stringent contamination standards of 0.5 percent. A typical permitted recycling facility in the U.S. achieves a contamination rate of 3 to 5 percent.”
