NPS, Metroparks mark the campaign’s 225th anniversary
To commemorate one of the most significant battles in U.S. history, the National Park Service and Metroparks Toledo held a ceremony at the Fallen Timbers Battlefield.
The Battle of Fallen Timbers fought August 20, 1794, was crucial to the fledgling nation’s westward expansion.
So significant was the battle that historians have ranked it third in importance behind the Civil War Gettysburg battle, which marked a turning point for preservation of the Union, and Yorktown, which saw British General Charles Cornwallis surrender to General George Washington, leading to the formation of the United States.
What led to the engagement at Fallen Timbers was a series of events that began after the American Revolution.
