Molly Mack sworn in as first female common pleas judge

Wood County history in the making

History was made last Friday in courtroom two of Wood County Common Pleas Court when the first female to become a common pleas judge was sworn in.

At the January 4 ceremony, Sixth District Court of Appeals Judge James Jensen administered the oath of office to new Common Pleas Judge Mary “Molly” Mack in a standing room only courtroom.

Judge Mack replaces Judge Reeve Kelsey, both of Perrysburg, who retired due to age limitations that prohibit judges from serving past age 70.

The ceremony began with a welcome by Kim Klewer, president of Asset Protection Corporation and friend of the Mack family. “It means so much that you are here to share this moment,” he told the crowd which included municipal, retired, common pleas and court of appeals judges, and Wood County commissioners, treasurer, auditor, sheriff, prosecutor and clerk of courts.

Rev. Jeff Bunke of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Perrysburg gave the invocation and the benediction to open and close the ceremony.
