Food pantry accepting donations of canned meats during Lent
Feeding the 5,000
During the Lenten season, which is March 6 through April 18, Perrysburg Christians United food pantry’s Feed the 5,000 program will collect canned meat to distribute to families in need.
“All citizens and businesses are welcome to participate,” said Shirley Kleist, the pantry’s president. “We accept donations of canned stew, chicken, Spam and tuna.”
Feeding the hungry has been the pantry’s mission since it opened in 1973.
“Pastor Ron Martell, First Presbyterian Church, and Betty Jacoby, a member of St. Rose Church, saw a need in the community,” said volunteer Jean Carr, who’s been involved since the beginning. “We started off at a house near Zoar Lutheran, and we’ve been going ever since.”
