Congratulations–PHS girls soccer finish the season as state finalists
A large crowd of Perrysburg faithful braved the 20 degree temperatures at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus to cheer the girls’ soccer team on in hopes of securing Perrysburg High School’s second state championship in five years. Unfortunately that was not to be as the Lady Jackets fell to the Loveland Lady Tigers by a score of 1- 0 in regulation play.
The Tigers were ranked number two in the state with a record of 21-1, winning their last nine games. The Jackets were ranked number seven in the state with a record of 17-2-3, winning their last 10 games to secure a place in the state championship.
Tournament play was very exciting for the Jackets winning their district and regional championships in double overtime shoot-outs. Even the state semi-finals went into overtime, with the winning goal scored 4:39 into the first overtime.
Despite the loss, it was a special night for seniors on the team. They were present at the 2012 game and dreamed of their own chance to play in the state championship, and that dream had come true.
