FPCC to hold farmers’ market on Aug. 24

Creating Healthy Communities at the Lucas County Health Department is sponsoring a summer farmers’ market at Friendship Park Community Center on Thursday, August 24. The open air market will take place in the parking lot from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Laptop sale to benefit local college students and conservation

AIM Ecycling of Toledo, will be hosting a laptop warehouse sale with hundreds of professionally refurbished computers being sold for a great cause.

Public shred day and school supply collection on Friday, August 18

Glass City Federal Credit Union and Vital Records Control (VRC) are offering area residents the opportunity to have their confidential, recyclable paper items shredded and recycled during a shred day. Materials will be collected on Friday, August 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Glass City Federal Credit Union, 1666 East Broadway Street, in East Toledo.

Free math tool available for middle school students

All Ohio school districts and schools serving students in sixth through eighth grade will have access to math tutoring program Zearn through the end of the 20242025 school year as part of the state’s efforts to rebound from COVID-related state testing declines.

Genacross opens pocket garden at Luther Crest

Genacross Lutheran Services dedicated its first senior adaptive pocket park on July 24. The park was created to offer Genacross residents socialization opportunities and overall health and wellness experiences in an outdoor area. The park features glider-style seating and is located in a small area at the back of Luther Crest and Luther Woods communities on North Holland Sylvania Road.

Red Cross experiencing blood shortage, local drives planned

The American Red Cross has been experiencing a decline in blood and platelet donations throughout the summer. All blood types are needed and appreciated, but types O negative, O positive and B negative are the most crucial during the immediate future.
