Battle of Fallen Timbers event set for Aug. 20

On Sunday, August 20, the Fallen Timbers Battlefield Preservation Commission will host an event honoring the 229th anniversary of the Battle of Fallen Timbers. Scouts and spies of the early American frontier will deliver interpretive storytelling from the perspective of historic characters, including General “Mad” Anthony Wayne, notorious General James Wilkinson, a legion scout, a woman adoptee of Native Americans, a spy for the Native Confederacy and a 1790’s fur trader Other activities will include hiking the mile-long battlefield trail, live weapons demonstration, presentation on Metropark mammals of the early frontier and more.

Art Walk exhibits to include works by Stefanie Rupsic

The ninth annual outdoor Point Place Art Walk will be held Saturday, September 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the walkway along Maumee Bay, near the lighthouse and Pinkley Pathway in Point Place. The event is free and open to the public. Artists are invited to participate in the juried show that will feature a variety of media.

Mud volleyball tournament scheduled for August 26

When dressed appropriately and mentally prepared, even the most finicky of adults are usually game to get a little muddy, especially when it is for a great cause. The 12th annual Bump, Set, Splat, Mud Volleyball Tournament will be held from 10 a.m.

OIG finds turnpike commission failed to comply with requirements

On August 8, the Ohio Inspector General’s (OIG) office found the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission failed to comply with procurement process requirements. Their findings came following an investigation that began March 1, 2021 when the OIG received an anonymous complaint alleging that the turnpike and infrastructure commission (OTIC) was failing to comply with applicable procurement requirements.

HOOVES to hold family event Aug. 26

HOOVES, a private, donor-supported charity, is hosting a family event from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, August 26, at their facility, 4055 Wilkins Road, Swanton. The family event features a free open house with a donation per vehicle encouraged.

American Red Cross provides safety tips for returning students this fall

The American Red Cross Northern Ohio Region sent out a newsletter including various tips for students and parents to follow as children return to school for the fall term. “There are some special steps parents of younger kids should take, especially if they have youngsters going to school for the first time,” said John Gareis, regional preparedness manager.
