Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn reminds all drivers that November is the month with the highest number of vehicle/deer crashes in Wood County. October and December being the next highest months.

Money has been donated by the Point Place and Shoreland area churches and Friendship Park Community Center to help those who need help paying for damages and deductibles. The fund is being administered by Lutheran Social Services of Northwest Ohio (LSS). If eligible, grants are $500 for a single person and $1,000 for a family.

The tools have been put away and the birds are tweeting their excitement. The fourth annual Battle Of The Birdhouses auction has begun. This year, a record number of birdhouses are on the auction block to raise funds for Nature’s Nursery.

A portion of 131st Street will be named for Clement Cybulski on Wednesday, October 25, at 4 p.m. The unveiling will be across from the entrance to Friendship Park Community Center at 304th Street.

The Grand Rapids Arts Council will host a Harvest Moon Gala on Sunday, October 15, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Nazareth Hall, 21211 West River Road. The fundraising event includes a sitdown dinner prepared by the Nazareth Hall chef, a silent auction, door prizes, 50/50 raffle and entertainment.

On September 26, Friends of Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge received a national award for their commitment to the refuge. Their unwavering commitment and enthusiasm for seamlessly connecting conservation and the local community has earned them the Molly Krival Award– Friends Group of the Year for the 2023 Wildlife Refuge Awards, presented by the National Wildlife Refuge Association.

O-I Glass and AIM Ecycling are hosting a glass and electronic recycling drive on Thursday, October 19, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
