Lucas County engineer seeks public input on traffic improvements

The Lucas County engineer’s office is seeking the help of every citizen in northwest Ohio to improve the safety of the transportation network across the region. Washington Local community names new middle school building

Washington Local Schools accepted community input on the naming of its forthcoming middle school building. At the November school board meeting, board members revealed that the new school will be named Whitmer Middle School. The middle school is scheduled to open in August of 2026.

Toledo secures $250,000 in grants for city parks

The City of Toledo has secured two prestigious Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) grants for Toledo city parks totaling more than a quarter of a million dollars. ODNR’s 2023 Recreational Trails Program, in collaboration with the Federal Highway Administration, awarded Toledo $150,000 for the Ottawa and Jermain Park Loop Trail.

Ally Effler, chief philanthropy officer at Metroparks Toledo, has been named outstanding fund-raising professional by the Association of Fundraising Professionals northwest Ohio chapter. She was honored November 15 during the 36th National Philanthropy Day celebration at the Premier Banquet Hall in south Toledo.

Friendship Park Community Center has posted the weekly menu for the community lunches. Guests are asked for donations of $2.50 per meal, and lunch is served at 11:45 a.m.

AARP Christmas lunch set for December 14

The Friendship Park Community Center’s AARP will hold a Christmas lunch on Thursday, December 14, at 12:30 p.m. Anyone over 50 is welcome to attend; do not need to be a member.
