Donations accepted for upcoming Healing Barn event

The Healing Barn, a nonprofit horse rescue facility at 27731 Bradner Road, Millbury, will host Be a Horse Hero fund-raiser on Friday, August 25, at Hilton Garden Inn, Perrysburg. The evening will feature music from DC Taylor, live and silent auctions, food and cash bar.

Friends of Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge are hosting the West Sister Island sunset cruise on Friday, August 11. West Sister Island National Wildlife Refuge is a rookery, where local wading birds like herons and egrets go to nest.

Toledo Museum of Art receives 46-pieces gospel

The Toledo Museum of Art has expanded its collection with its acquisition of “The Pozzi Gospels,” a collection of Armenian manuscripts of the Gospel, named after Jean Pozzi, who owned the manuscript from 1936 to 1967.

Blackeyed susans, a meadow wildflower

When black-eyed susans are blooming you know the wildflower action has shifted from woods to meadows. Black-eyed susans are the poster species for moving into open spaces. Their affinity for being among the first plants to emerge in barren, newly cleared fields or after a burn is so well-known that they are called a pioneer plant. Their beautiful, dark-centered many-rayed bright yellow blooms are hard to miss.

Haunted Waterville tour tickets available

Tickets for this season’s Haunted Waterville Tours 2023 are now available for purchase. “Last year, tickets sold out by early July and this summer tickets are already in demand,” said Julia Wiley, vice president of the Waterville Historical Society, which organizes the tours.

Taking care of the Point Place lighthouse

Members of the Point Place lighthouse care team have been impacted by the recent tornado, so beautification services are presently on hold. V.J. Huffman would like to reassure community members that the lighthouse is receiving all necessary upkeep to maintain its safety and grounds care will resume in the near future.
