Robert and DorothyWelch established Welch Publishing Company in 1969 with the purchase of the Perrysburg Messenger Journal and the Rossford Record Journal (established in 1940). The company was located on West Sixth Street in Perrysburg.

In 1978, the company expanded into the North Toledo, Point Place area with the birth of the Point & Shoreland Journal, also a weekly newspaper.

In 1980, the printing operations of the company were moved to a plant in Rossford. The new plant enabled the company to expand its printing capabilities from a single press that could print eight pages at a time, to an offset four-unit press capable of printing 16 broadsheet pages or 32 tabloid pages. Two more units and a large four-color unit have been acquired since.

In 1993, the Perrysburg office was moved to its present location at 117 East Second Street, the former Perrysburg Post Office building.

Today, in addition to the four weekly papers, the company prints or publishes numerous other publications such as the Lucas County American Legion Press, monthly newsletters, newspapers and magazines. Smaller presses produce everyday business items from business cards, letterheads, and envelopes to brochures and books.
